After the results of the Lok Sabha elections, various parties analyse their respective performances. According to sources, in this connection, a report on the reasons for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s poor performance in Uttar Pradesh has been sent to the headquarters. The BJP had won only 33 out of 80 seats in UP, as against 63 in 2019. In addition to this, the Samajwadi Party had pushed the BJP to second place in the state by winning 37 Lok Sabha seats. The BJP's allies got 3 seats, Congress got 6 seats while Chandrashekhar Azad Ravan won one seat.?To find out the reason for BJP's poor performance in the Lok Sabha elections in UP, the party has formed a task force which will go to every Lok Sabha to find out the reason for the party's defeat and submit its report to the UP BJP President in about a week.

There have been continuous deliberations on the loss of the party. Today, first there will be a meeting of party officials in the BJP office, in which the performances of defeated candidates of the Kanpur division will be reviewed. According to reports, the main focus will be on creamy seats including - Amethi, Rae Bareily, Sultanpur, Faizabad, Muffafarnagar, Allahabad, Saharanpur.

What were the possible reasons for the defeat?

The BJP, which is on brainstorming mode after facing humiliating results in the UP, has started working on the strategies for the state elections due in 2027. While the BJP was expecting to win more than 63 seats, its performance in 2019, the Lok Sabha poll results have pushed the party into shock. According to sources, the report of defeated candidates have been sent to the regional party headquarters including the reasons for BJP winning fewer seats:

  • Public conduct: The public was angry with the MPs who had won more than twice. According to reports, the behaviour of some MPs was also not good.
  • Ticket distribution: The state government had asked to cancel or change the tickets of about 3 dozen MPs, but it was ignored. If the tickets were changed, the results would have been better.
  • Constitution talk: BJP could not counter the Opposition's pitch of changing the constitution and ending reservation. The opposition was successful in its statement.
  • Lack of coordination: The coordination between the party officials and the MPs was not up to the mark. This was the reason that the voter slips reached a very few houses in the entire state this time.
  • No local support: In some districts, the MLAs did not get along with their own MP candidates. The MLAs did not support them properly, which led to the defeat.
  • No direct communication with beneficiaries: BJP's beneficiaries were attracted by the guarantee of Rs 8500 per month (from Congress). Here too, the lack of direct communication with the beneficiaries became the reason for the defeat.
  • Unpopular MP candidates: In many districts, the unpopularity of the MP candidate became so intense that BJP workers did not come out of their homes.
  • Indifference towards workers: Ignoring the workers was also a big issue. Disappointed and indifferent grassroots workers voted for the party but did not inspire others to vote.
  • Paper leak issue: The opposition was successful in diverting people's attention to issues like paper leaks and Agniveer.
