Amid the intensifying NEET UG row, the Bihar government has issued a notification and transferred the Bihar Police’s Economic Offences Unit (EOU) investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The CBI on Monday reached EOU’s office in Patna and took over the case.?

Before transferring the case, the EOU made significant strides in the case. Here is what the investigation resulted in so far:

  1. According to EOU, the entire paper leak was done very organised.
  2. The paper leak happened about 48 hours ago, while the candidates who paid were provided the paper the night before. The short time frame prevented the leak across India.
  3. Only limited access to the leaked paper was provided to the candidates. Those who paid less were provided a small part of the leaked question paper.
  4. EOU arrested a total of 18 people allegedly involved in the NEET UG irregularities case. Additionally, the search was on for 10 PG students of AIIMS Ranchi-Deoghar who allegedly solved the leaked paper.
  5. The Police found burnt question paper and a booklet that traced back to Hazaribag’s Oasis school in Jharkhand. The paper leak was related to Hazaribagh’s Oasis School in Jharkhand.
  6. Till now no clue has been found of any kind of tampering in the question paper box. The investigating agency suspects that the paper leak happened when it was being sent to the bank locker
  7. The bank locker in which the question paper was kept, the courier companies that sent it to the bank and from there to the centre, all their statements will be recorded and their route will be mapped
  8. The burnt question paper that was recovered is being matched with NTA's reference question paper in CFSL. According to reports, 69 questions out of a total of 200 questions have been recovered from the brunt paper.

CBI takes cases from multiple states

Nonetheless, the CBI officials said that the central agency has re-registered one case each from Gujarat and Bihar, and three cases from Rajasthan, as its own First Information Report (FIR). Additionally, it is expected to take up another case from Latur, Maharashtra. Except for the case from Bihar, the other four cases appear to involve isolated incidents of impersonation and cheating involving local officials, invigilators, and candidates.
