A small jet crashed into a vehicle Tuesday after taking off from a suburban Phoenix airport, killing five people, police said. The plane crashed while taking off from Falcon Field Airport in Mesa, police there said in a statement. The Honda HA-420 light business jet struck the vehicle outside airport property at 4:40 pm, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The Kerala government on Wednesday announced financial assistance to the kin of those who died in the recent Kasaragod temple tragedy and in the Shoranur train accident. A cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, decided to provide Rs four lakh each to the families of four victims who had succumbed to the burns they sustained in the temple festival firecracker accident in Kasaragod district, a CMO statement said.

On the Almora bus accident, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said, "It is a very sad incident. Action was taken and two ARTOs were suspended. A magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the incident. It is also to ensure that such incidents are not repeated."

The Meghalaya Cabinet has approved the amendment of the Meghalaya Building Byelaws aimed at regulating the construction of buildings in industrial zones across the state including those in the New Shillong Township. Cabinet minister and MDA spokesperson Paul Lyngdoh on Tuesday said, "This (amendment) is broadly to facilitate the need to categorise the industrial zone to categories earlier not done and also it involves the amendment of the building byelaws for these industrial zones."

The opposition BJP in Karnataka on Wednesday staged a protest demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who appeared before the Lokayukta police here in response to the summons issued to him for questioning in the MUDA site allotment case.

A three-year-old girl was allegedly molested at a well-known private playschool and police has registered a case in the matter, officials said on Wednesday. Gurugram Police Commissioner Vikas Kumar Arora has formed an SIT to investigate the matter, they said. Family members of the girl held demonstrations outside the playschool, demanding the arrest of the accused. The playschool has so far not given a statement on the matter. Despite several attempts, the school principal could not be contacted.

Four suspected rhino poachers were arrested along with arms and ammunition in Assam's Darrang district, a senior official said. In a post on X, DGP G P Singh said the four were planning to kill a rhino at Orang National Park when they were nabbed on Tuesday night. One .303 rifle with ammunition, three mobiles, five motorcycles and camping stores were seized from them, he added.
