The Gandhinagar seat comprises seven Assembly segments including Gandhinagar North, Kalol, Sanand, Ghatlodia, Vejalpur, Naranpura and Sabarmati. The constituency is a general seat and not reserved for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs). The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress are the main parties in the constituency. BJP veteran Lal Krishna Advani won the Gandhinagar constituency six times in 1991, 1998, 1999, 2004, 2009 and 2014.
